The population of Southwest Economic Region is largely concentrated in owned dwellings. Within the city, nearly two thirds of the dwellings were owned by the residents, and of these, a large majority were single detached houses. Census figures indicate the following changes in the tenure of private households in the City of Brandon’s between 1996 and 2006.
In the Southwest Economic Region as a whole, nearly three quarters of occupied dwellings were owned by the residents. In particular, in the rural areas, more than 85% of occupied dwellings were owned by a member of the household. This could suggest a high degree of permanency and stability in the region. There were 417 new dwelling units added to the Brandon marketplace in 2009 of which 119 were single family units, 6 were two family units and 290 were multiple family units. New Dwelling Units, 1998 – 2009
