Brandon School Division has approximately 7,000 students, 950 staff members and operates 22 schools. The Division is large enough to offer the wide range of educational and student support services found in larger centres, but at the same time, it is small enough to recognize individual needs and focus on community development. Brandon is the 6th largest division in the Province with a budget that exceeds $59 million. There are 3 high schools and 19 early and middle years schools in Brandon School Division. French Immersion programming is offered from Kindergarten to Grade 12 at 3 division schools, École O’Kelly School at CFB Shilo, École New Era School and École Secondaire Neelin High School. The Division also offers vocational training, at Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School.

Assiniboine Community College offers over 30 programs in four academic schools of Agriculture & Environment, Business, Health & Human Services and Trades & Technology. With a main campus and the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts located in Brandon, the Parkland Campus in Dauphin, and five training centres in Winnipeg, Neepawa, Russell, Swan River, and Steinbach, Assiniboine offers comprehensive education services across the province.

Whether you want to study full-time, part-time, or by distance education, Assiniboine offers apprenticeship programs, certificates, diplomas, mature student high school, continuing studies and contract training. The college’s educational delivery is offered through a variety of approaches, including face-to-face, distance and online, blended learning and integrated programs.

Assiniboine has over 250 full-time and 250 part-time staff, with an annual full-time enrolment of almost 2,600 in 2008-09. The college’s total annual enrolment is approximately 10,000 when combined with distance education, continuing studies and contract students from across Manitoba.

The college is the exclusive provider of training for practical nurses in the province. In 2005-06, Assiniboine delivered six offerings of the Practical Nursing program in Brandon, Winnipeg and two rural Manitoba communities. Assiniboine also has the mandate for agricultural training for Manitoba through the School of Agriculture & Environment.

In September of 2007, the college began the first phase of its move to the former Brandon Mental Health Centre grounds on the North Hill in the city, as the Culinary Arts and Hotel and Restaurant Management programs moved into state-of-the-art facilities at the new Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts. The next phase of the college's move to this heritage site began in 2008 as the $45 million Len Evans Centre of Trades & Technology began construction. The centre is set to open September 2010. The final phase of relocation will see the remainder of ACC's Brandon based programs moved to the Parkland builidng on the North Hill.

Assiniboine is committed to academic excellence and student success. The faculty and staff work tirelessly to design and deliver relevant, applied, current and comprehensive programs. Assiniboine Community College offers adult learning programs at the Adult Collegiate (ACCAC) in downtown Brandon and at the Parkland Campus in Dauphin. Adult learning programming is designed for individuals who want to achieve a high school diploma in order to meet entrance requirements for post-secondary education or to increase their competitiveness in the job market. Classes are available day and/or evening.

Individuals who already have a Senior 4 credential, but who need a different level of mathematics, physics, English or other discipline, will also find programming to meet their needs. Beginning in 2001-02, the College Preparation program was redesigned for delivery as the Extended program. The redesigned program combines Senior 3 and 4 courses with college courses and allows a student who does not meet post-secondary entrance requirements to complete a two-year diploma over three years, while also completing a Mature Student High School diploma.

In addition to regular academic courses, the collegiate offers the Integrated Comprehensive Health Care Aide program designed for students interested in obtaining their high school diploma and their Health Care Aide certificate. For students wishing to pursue a career in the construction trades, the collegiate offers a high school diploma with elective dual credit courses in the trades area, as well as upgrading courses in trades.

Advising is available for course selection, career advice and personal matters. Students do not pay tuition fees, but do pay students’ association fees.

Founded in 1899, Brandon University has become a nationally recognized leader in the delivery of undergraduate and graduate programs. Brandon University is a leader in innovative educational initiatives that are attentive to the community it serves.

Students are the focus at Brandon University. Graduates praise Brandon’s low student-professor ratio, the accessibility of instructors, and the quality of instruction. Faculty members at Brandon University are conducting research in many fascinating areas and bringing their discoveries right into classrooms. Senior students are provided the opportunity to work directly with professors in original research.

University faculty members receive national awards for research in physics, astronomy, geology, mathematics, and social sciences. Research dealing with liquid crystals, behavior of forest fires, mosquito abatement, and the medicinal uses of native plants add an exciting perspective. Archaeological field research is revealing fascinating new evidence about early Prairie dwellers. Much of the applied research focuses on rural, Aboriginal and northern issues. The Rural Development Institute tackles issues of practical relevance to the rural economy.

Brandon University offers undergraduate degrees in such areas as Arts, Science, Music, Education, Business Administration, Fine Arts, Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, and First Nations and Aboriginal Counseling. The University also features graduate degrees in Music, Rural Development and Education, as well as pre-professional programs in 19 areas ranging from agriculture to dentistry and veterinary medicine. Brandon University is also home to the innovative Applied Disaster and Emergency Studies program – the first program of its kind in the country.

Internationally, Brandon is known for its exceptional School of Music. New additions to the faculty include appointments in clarinet and jazz studies. The School of Music’s graduate programs continue to enroll students from around the world as it enters its 104th year of operation in 2010.

Brandon continues to have a strong commitment to providing access for rural and remote students. Brandon has collaborated with other universities in the province to form Campus Manitoba, an internet-based program of distributed learning with the head office at BU. Also, programs such as the Community-Based Initiatives Program within the Faculty of Education and the Program for the Education of Nature Teachers (PENT) continue to provide high quality preparation for teachers throughout Manitoba.

Brandon University's strong commitment to Aboriginal students is reflected in programs offered such as Visual & Aboriginal Art, Native Studies and First Nations and Aboriginal Counseling. In fact, 50% of Aboriginal teachers employed in Manitoba come from the BU Faculty of Education.

International students at BU enhance the vitality of its academic and multicultural environment. Brandon University has numerous partnership agreements and exchange programs around the world. Brandon has an international student organization. Student services support the learning community and provide resources that assist students in their academic work. BUSU, Brandon’s student union, strengthens the campus’s sense of community through the organization of student-led clubs and activities. The Academy of Learning offers a unique integrated learning system, which allows students the freedom to custom design their education to suit their individual needs.
